Happy Doctor’s Day everyone!👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️🩺

Today, I want to share a story close to my heart about my transformative journey following a traumatic brain injury after a road traffic accident and how a Doctor became my savior.

In Japanese there is a concept called Kintsugi meaning mending broken ceramic with gold and how broken becomes more beautiful.

That’s what Dr Sushil Razdan did to me, alchemy of transforming my broken self into a resilient being following a traumatic brain injury which led me to broken temporal bone, facial paralysis and multiple cranial nerve injuries, otorrhea and lot more.

Dr. Sushil Razdan, an eminent neurologist from Jammu and Kashmir, renowned internationally not only treated me but also instilled hope, confidence, and the belief that I could achieve anything I set my heart to.

This experience inspired me to pursue a career in medicine, igniting my fascination with the brain and consciousness.

When I was hit by a truck at around 18 years old, and doctors said I might not live or would live with focal neurological deficits, I not only persevered but also became a Doctor, climber, and writer against all odds.

Dr. Razdan’s kindness and warmth were my guiding light during those broken times, and his guidance continued even after my recovery.

After months of rehabilitation, he wrote on my prescription 99 percent recovery and I had told him that but my right eye is smaller than my left eye and I still have facial palsy and his words, “beauty must have a flaw,” suddenly catapulted me to so much joy that I kind of felt at ease with how I looked with my hair gone, my facial palsy and long road to recovery.

Dr. Razdan not only helped me understand my injuries but also taught me that sometimes divine interventions are greater than human interference.

His dedication to his patients, as he saw hundreds of them for hours with a grin and a smiling face, is a testament to his compassionate care.

Dr. Razdan’s smiling face alone gave me back half of my confidence, and for that, I will always be grateful.

These words of his have been my guiding light

Be humane, not in pauses but always…
That is how you can be a great doctor

I haven’t gotten a chance to meet him since many years but I hope this article can reach him somehow and I hope he remembers this young girl who felt that accident was end of her life and aspirations and little knowing that it would open portals of healing, compassion, resilience and acceptance in her.
